Growing claims of internal crisis within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are largely being driven by political calculations ahead of the 2027 elections, according to analyst Dayo Sobowale.

Speaking during an interview on ARISE News, Sobowale dismissed suggestions that the controversies surrounding key APC figures are purely based on governance concerns, insisting that much of the ongoing drama reflects early positioning for future political contests.

“APC crisis claims are politically timed for 2027,” he said.

Sobowale explained that Nigeria’s political class has already shifted attention toward the next election cycle despite the current administration still being in office.

“We are in political times, times for speculation, times for strategising,” he stated.

According to him, recent political developments involving Senate President Godswill Akpabio and other influential APC figures have intensified internal maneuvering within the party.

“That stillborn, unborn baby was already being dramatised in the Senate,” he said.

He said that powerful political actors within the APC naturally attract both loyalty and resistance because of their influence within the ruling party structure.

“He’s a very powerful man,” Sobowale stated.

Despite reports of divisions within the APC, Sobowale argued that the party still maintains a strong political advantage due to its nationwide control and dominance at the state level.

“They have so many things going for every seat, 31 governors out of 36,” he said.

According to him, opposition parties are eager to see tensions within the APC escalate because internal confusion within the ruling party could improve their own electoral chances.

“The opposition has every reason to wish them to be at each other’s throat,” he said.

Sobowale further described the opposition as fragmented, with several politicians allegedly searching for viable political platforms to advance their presidential ambitions.

“They are shopping for relevance,” he stated.

Addressing allegations of financial impropriety against some APC leaders, Sobowale maintained that many of the accusations remain speculative and politically motivated.

“When you ask, they are just speculations,” he said.

He also pointed to President Bola Tinubu’s confidence in certain APC figures as a source of political anxiety among rivals within and outside the ruling party.

“This president has tremendous confidence in him,” he noted.

According to Sobowale, such influence often makes powerful political figures targets of strategic attacks aimed at weakening their future ambitions.

“A lot of people envy him,” he added.

He warned that as the 2027 elections draw closer, political propaganda, misinformation, and strategic narratives would likely intensify across party lines.

“That is part of the disinformation and misinformation that all of the opposition and government will face until the election takes place,” he concluded.

Sobowale concluded that many of the claims surrounding internal tensions within the APC are tied to early political positioning for 2027, warning that strategic allegations and political maneuvering are likely to intensify as the next election cycle approaches.
