Aisha Yesufu To Sowore: I’m Not In The Wrong Party

Activist and political commentator Aisha Yesufu has defended her decision to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress to contest the FCT senatorial seat in the 2027 elections after former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore said she was in the “wrong party.”

Yesufu reacted after Sowore, during an interview on Channels Television on Monday, backed her decision to contest the Federal Capital Territory senatorial seat but questioned her choice of political platform.

Responding to his comments, Yesufu said: “I’m not in the wrong party. Maybe he should market the party more (Sowore’s African Action Congress, AAC), not to be like a one-person party, so we’ll come and join.”

Sowore had said he fully supported Yesufu’s political ambition and encouraged more activists to participate in politics.

“No, I totally support her. I’ve always told her that good people, people who believe that they can do things, should get into politics,” he said.

He added: “The business of politics is actually the biggest activism that has to be done to save society.”

While endorsing her candidacy, Sowore argued that Yesufu should have joined his political platform, the African Action Congress.

“So I totally support her, and I hope she wins. Even though I think that she’s in the wrong party, she should have joined our party,” he said.

Yesufu recently resigned from the African Democratic Congress and joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress, where she announced plans to contest the FCT senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.
