President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the President-elect of Benin Republic, Romuald Wadagni, following his victory in the country’s presidential election.
Wadagni, who currently serves as Benin’s Minister of Finance, secured an overwhelming majority of votes in the election held on April 12, 2026.
In a letter personally signed on April 16, 2026, Tinubu described the victory as a reflection of the confidence the Beninese people have in Wadagni’s leadership and track record in public service.
“Your victory reflects the trust the Beninese people have placed in your vision and your distinguished record of service as Minister of Finance,” the President stated.
Tinubu also highlighted the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and Benin, noting shared cultural ties, history, and cooperation between both countries.
He expressed optimism about working closely with Wadagni’s administration to deepen bilateral relations, enhance regional security, and promote economic growth within the ECOWAS sub-region and the African Union.
The Nigerian leader further commended the people of Benin for their commitment to democratic values and peaceful conduct throughout the electoral process.
“As you prepare to assume the responsibilities of the presidency, I wish you wisdom, fortitude, and success,” Tinubu added, assuring the President-elect of Nigeria’s support and cooperation.
